About Barbara Jago
Barbara Jago was born in Liverpool, U.K. to the sound of bombs dropping.
Encouraged by her creative mother, she trained as a dancer in the Liverpool Theatre School and danced on stage with Margot Fonteyn at the age of 15, in what Barbara calls, “My five minutes of fame.” After appearing in several theatrical productions as a dancer, she decided the stage wasn’t for her and eventually, after marrying, having a son, and battling the usual obstacles that come with life, she became an award-winning screenwriter with over thirty film credits. Her latest book, A Sleeping Lion, began as a screenplay, but the more she researched, the more she felt compelled to write its fullness in book form.
Barbara’s first experience writing about Africa was the film, ‘FLAME’ co-written with Ingrid Sinclair, the amazing producer and director. It portrayed the fight for women’s independence in Zimbabwe and received numerous awards, and special reviews. Venturing into the literary world, barbara has also written a children’s book, titled ‘Chumly The Curious Chimp’, which is yet to be published.
