Peter Watson OAM is a former Australian politician and accomplished middle-distance runner whose career spanned sport, public service, and politics. A two-time Australian 1500m champion and Olympian at the 1968 Mexico Games, he later worked with Australia Post before entering politics. Peter served as the Labor member for Albany in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2021, including as Speaker from 2017. Widely respected for his dedication to community service, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2026 for his service to the people and Parliament of Western Australia.
